Paul Berglund, the 2016 James Beard Best Chef Midwest Awardee, is the only such awardee currently cooking at a restaurant in the State of Michigan. The last Best Chef awardee in Michigan was in 1994, and the only other was awarded in 1984.
He won the award while leading the kitchen at the Bachelor Farmer in Minneapolis. Paul also brought home a national award as Top 10 Best New Restaurant in the U.S by Bon Appetit magazine and the Best Restaurant in Minneapolis awarded by the Minneapolis Star Tribune while leading the Bachelor Farmer.
Paul will bring his nationally-recognized food to Grand Rapids at Mertens Prime when indoor dining re-opens in 2021. The new menu is being authored by Paul and will be released soon. The restaurant has temporarily halted reservations and will announce when they will be re-opened for booking.
